I tried to order broadband / adsl the other week and the line quality tested
ok etc, I was an ok distance from the exchange etc, but the line into my
house is fibre optic. ADSL only works over copper. Bugger.

Anyone tried onspeed which claims to be very fast over dial up connections?
Anyother suggestions on getting broadband? Dont want radio broadband and do
not have calbe in our area. So much for the government wanting broadband
everywhere by 2000 and whatever. I live in a large city and in the largest
private housing estate in europe. All of us have fibre opting bt lines.

Steve

I can recommend satellite broadband especially Eutelsat. The cost per
month is about the same as adsl. Checkout http://www.eutelsat.net/
Whatever you do don't buy from a partner..buy direct from opensky.

Does that include both your ISP and eutelsat subscriptions?

I don't see how you can compare the cost really. ADSL is on 'all the
time'. If your setup was on all the time, how would costs compare?

have you tried asking BT run your house off copper. I have heard that
even in so called fiber only areas there is also a limited supply of copper.

There is. A limited amount of copper was run into TPON estates so that
redcare alarm lines could be installed as redcare doesn't work over
TPON. A manual order could be placed so that a PTO could search for a
copper lead in your cab. It worked for a few people I know in
Daventry.
