First, let me preface this conversation by admitting that I know next
to nothing about networking.

I have a DSL modem connected to my Linksys BEFSR41 router, to which I
also have 2 PCs connected. The PCs are running XP Pro SP2.

My question is - with the setup I have, can I configure the router and
built in Windows firewall significantly to prtoect myself from outside
attack?

If this is not the case, what is the best solution for me? I have heard
good things about the Zone Alarm suite - but have had a really bad
epxerience with McAfee IS suite, so I'm skeptical.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

To increase your level of security, I always suggest blocking both TCP and UDP ports 135 ~
139 and 445 on *any* SOHO Router.

On many Linksys models you can set it at the following URL...
http://192.168.1.1/Filters.htm

I have implememted the above plus AV and the free version of Zone Alarm.
My defenses have not been breached.
