What am I missing? (Net View issues)

Hi Gang,
I'm just looking for a little advice on where to look for my problem...

We've got a win2003 network runing here. We have two subnets here in side
separated by a debian linux router acting as our firewall/router. (Not my
choice).

The primary w2003 network is on the 16.0/255 subnet. Everybody can ping and
dns lookups are fine, etc. In otherwords, no IP problems with the DNS, etc.

On my subnet, the 0.0/255 subnet, I've got an ISA firewall in place but it's
wide open. (It's experimental). I can ping everybody on both subnets, I
can get to the internet via dns lookup, everything at the IP level seems to
work fine.

I can do a net use f: \\server\netdisk where server is at 16.254 and it
works just fine. (This is on the other subnet notice).

I can not however do a net use f: \\pc0001\c$ I keep getting a system error
53. The thing is, I have been able to map to this particular computer
before without any problems. (Pc0001 is at 16.53). I can ping this machine
via name and ip without any problems. (I can't map to it using IP address
either \\10.10.16.254\c$)

So, the million dollar question is, what did I miss? I can do a net view
and see all of the computers, but that's coming from the wins server (??).

It seems that other people can still get to my computer on the 0 subnet
without any problems.

I'm using WinXP/sp2 and I have the firewall settings on my pc disabled.

Thanks for any hints...

Nick

assuming you can't map ip or hostname, do you have a firewall blocking the
traffic? or have enable sharing?

I thought about that. I don't think it's enabled sharing. I'm after the
linux guy to check his server out. he doesn't think he has a problem
because he can map to my node. One of those, I don't see the problem kind
of deals. I'll have him check the traffic on the debian server and see if
it's there. (It's actually my first choice of things to go after, I just
can't do it myself. He only lets me play on the development net and not the
production net. Can't say I blame him, I like to screw around with
settings, etc. Sometimes I knock myself out of the system for a day or
two).

I'll get back to you and see what else he says.

Thanks for the help,
Nick
