Errr... doubt it. If you are migrating you (a) can opt for a monthly
contract and (b) are covered by the Guarantee that if you don't like it
then within 45 days you can ask to be migrated away. Oh, well, perhaps
I should have said "try it for a month..." not two, in retrospect!

Yes, that would seem right. With Dee there's a bit more of a problem
with it showing May as the upgrade date, and who knows quite how "up-
to-date" the lists of customers whose lines are in need of upgrade BT
would hold... it is the kind of question only Plus.Net networks will
be able to give authoritative answers on, for Dee and others with the
dates so close as that...

>(a) how do they know if it's being used for business or not?

They probably don't

>(b) what difference does it make to them?

Their terms for residential services prohibit commercial use

It's down to your conscience. If you are happy to break their T+C
that's down to you, but if you are in business, would you want your
customers to comply with your T+C or not ? I approached it by using
a separate phone line and a separate ISP providing me with ADSL so I
had a clear conscience thus not using a residential account in a way
that would break the ISP T+C. I did that because I considered their
business accounts too expensive (especially considering they had the
most heavy downloaders on residential accounts). I could see little
or no justification for paying a significantly higher fee when there
was no apparent benefit, either in having separate customer services
or higher priority for tech support or anything else - whereas there
are some ISPs which do segregate residential from business - still a
bit of a problem in my view for ISPs to justify significantly higher
fees, but then, having seen mention of some problems affecting their
customers across the board, I have to say that as a connectivity ISP
Plus.Net has been fine, and do keep their customers informed (mostly
but sometimes the newsgroup posts may not appear if they don't 'tick
a box' - but the announcements also come by e-mail if one opts-in).

>> upgrade to Premier if you migrate.

[ SNIP bits like using a remote server for POP/SMTP, no need for fixed
IP, no concern over contention, no need of webspace / CGI ]

>What's the advantages of the Premier account over the Plus for

You were wanting an account where you could download around 2 GB a day,
which hints either of being a heavy newsgroup user, or using peer-to-peer
and neither is suited to the Plus account - the traffic would probably be
restricted for 18+ hours a day and you'd probably come back to u.t.b. in
a few weeks from now, and bitch about Plus.Net having a naff service :-)

I recommend them and save some cash.

With a guarantee allowing new users to migrate if they're unhappy!

LOL. I did see mention of some 'fair use' policy affecting use of their
(external) news service so that it had been throttled to 128 kbps (which
is still plenty enough for many purposes, though pulling movies might be
a bit more of a problem... never tried that myself). Peter M.

Hi Sunil

I can get Bulldog, but will I be able to use www.1899.com or the like?

1899's VoIP service and their 0808 access number work.

The shorter 1899 prefix won't work.

Other carriers will be similar on a Bulldog LLU line will be similar.

Haven't tried that.

So they don't block 0808 170 7474?

I don't use that so that's OK.

I'd have to switch from Telewaste, I hope Bulldog's offer continues this
month. What's your Bulldog reference again? I'll let you know if I proceed
further.

P.S. Have you had any problems with Bulldog, and if so, was it recently?

Might be worth looking at Freedom2Surf, 2mbps, monthly contract, 50gb
cap with unmetered 1am-6am.

Pipex 1mbps also might be worth a look, or Metronet?

cheers,
Paul

Try Zetnet, varying speeds available, no cap.

Nope..

Thanks - its bdol87431

You just need to quote it when signing up online (under "How did you hear
about Bulldog?/Referred by a Friend") or just mention it while ordering by
telephone.

At the moment, Bulldog actually seem to the cheapest way to install a BT
line (if you are in an LLU area) - they are/were only charging £1 for a new
line and with a one month contract..

> P.S. Have you had any problems with Bulldog, and if so, was it recently?

I had some problems last summer re: slow speeds - Bulldog suffered by having
an unexpectedly long delay in having some new capacity installed.

Generally though, once its all set up and running, their LLU services are
fine.

The only problem for me now is their billing system. They are introducing a
new billing platform and the invoices I get are correct. However, they have
failed to actually take any money from my account (and I am not the only
one) recently though no doubt they will correct this eventually..

Regards
Sunil
