Alternative to PIPEX

I'm sick to the back teeth of PIPEX - it is total crap. The News server
takes 30 seconds to deliver a message, the free web space server has been as
reliable as RAILTRACK, and the mail server goes out for hours on end.
Please - any suggestions for something that resembles a professional set up
and where the engineers can fix outages in hours instead of weeks?

PIPEX may be cheap, but it isn't cheerful - don't waste your money.

I have come to the conclusion that there isn't a single ISP in this
country that can deliver what you and I both require all are
exceedingly good at taking their money each month and also good at
cutting your account if you don't pay on time .So you might just as
well stay with Pipex move if you wish but don't say you haven't been
warned .

Why dont you buy an old machine and set it up as a mail server?

Linux can be fired on and then you can have you in and outgoing mail through
that...

Monty is right there, if you want a professional setup you need to buy a
leased line...

Hang on Richard I wouldn't even trust any ISP here in the UK to
provide me with a 100% reliable connection even with a leased line,
but there are ways around some of the problems for starters one can
run one's own mail server which is more reliable than any ISP's mail
and your mail is a lot safer from prying eyes stored on your own
machine in this day and age .

I'm afraid the solution is redundancy - of service providers.

o Yes, your own mail server is a good idea
o Then use broadband with a router that fails over to dialup
---- Slow, yes
---- Choosing a different ISP for dialup can boost availability

I don't use Broadband, but I do use two dialup ISPs instead.
o Cost is similar
o Bandwidth remains low - but for many it's a non-issue

Leased line still requires failover, nothing is perfect.

But apart from that, the actual connection is ok? The answer is to
only use the isp for a connection and outsource the rest of the
services you require. I use claranews for mail and news, no problems
there (touch wood!)
