Hello, I hope someone can help me with this problem.

My Windows 2003 server lost all of its network connections. In Device
Manager the network adapters have yellow exclamation marks. No icons appear
in network connections. There are no apparent errors in the event log.

The adapter properties list the following error: “This device is not
working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this
device (code 31)”

One of the adapters, Intel PRO/1000 GT, gives the following error when I try
to look at its properties: “Failed to obtain the GUID” & “Error getting the
adapter info”

I have done the following:

1. Tried uninstalling the drivers and then reinstalling.
2. I have put different NIC’s into the system from different manufactures.
3. Tried older driver versions.
4. Followed steps in the following KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825826. This seems to describe my issue
perfectly but it did not solve the problem.
5. Did a repair from the Windows Server CD-Rom.

Thank you,
Steve

I opened a ticket with Microsoft and got the problem resolved. Here are the
steps that fixed it if anyone is curious.

1. On the server, open Device Management, delete all NICs with yellow
exclamation marks.
2. Open Windows Explorer, refer to the Windows\INF folder, , locate all the
oem*.* files (For example, oem1.inf, oem1.PNF, and so on) and remove them.
3. Run regedit.exe, export the
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\P CI] to a PCI.reg file for
backup and then delete all the sub keys under the key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\P CI\VEN_1011&DEV_0009&SUBSYS_21140A00&REV_20]
4. Export the key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Network] to a
Network.reg file for backup and delete the Config value in the right pane if
it exists.
5. Reboot the server.
6. Apply the latest NIC drivers when you are prompted to provide the drivers
for the NIC installation during startup.

Thanks,
Steve
