We migrated a file server to a new system but some people have links to the
old server that they need to update so I wanted to just create an alias
pointing the old name to the new server, I keep getting an error when trying
to use the old name to a share on the new server - the error is "duplicate
name exists on the network"
The old machine is deleted and was removed from the network
dns and wins all cleaned
no host files
I create the alias and dns works but the file browsing fails.
tried creating a static wins entry and still fails.
tried giving the new system 2 ips' and it still fails.

how do I get this working?

Change the computer name of the old computer or delete computer account in AD.
