I've got anew SMC2804AWBR wireless 802.11.g router. I set it up to
alert me whenever anyone attemps to hack in. Since then, I get several
similar "alert" messages per day from each of my 2 wired and 3 wireless
computers. Here's a few examples.

Time: 08/01/2003, 18:18:58
Message: SYN Flood to Host
Source: 192.168.2.102, 4720
Destination:209.233.130.74, 80 (from WAN Outbound)

Time: 08/05/2003, 17:15:11
Message: SYN Flood to Host
Source: 192.168.2.102, 1762
Destination:166.90.208.152, 80 (from WAN Outbound)

Is this just normal communication between my systems?

Thanks!
Scott

I have the SMC7004WFW, same sorts of alert messages. Some of them
certainly are random attacks. I get smurfed every once in a while from
some strange addresses. I also get the SYN FLOOD with the other address
being a web host that I just visited or my work VPN server. Often, these
are the result of outstanding packets that are either due to network load
or network retries. The SMC filter can be adjusted to allow more time or
more outstanding packets. The defaults are pretty tight, leading to some
false alarms.
