i am having hassles configuring the firewall on my speed touch 510 v3.7
router/modem

this is a pain as it has to be done with a load of fiddly telnet commands

i have found a discussion group where the owner even wrote a GUI for the
firewall which i could not get to work

anyone got any good advice re this router/modem , specifically how to
disable the firewall altogether?

i need a good firewall of SOME SORT due to criminal hacker hooligans like
daniel 'checker' huyton aka
hans.kolv-(E-Mail Removed) cyber-harassing me etc

zone alarm will have to do , i suppose

i might chuck the alcatel away and get a cheap new 4 port mentor for 40 quid
from rl supplies who are ace.

is the mentor any good?

rgds

ian

If that's the ASR one you'll need a software firewall (such as Zone alarm or
Norton Internet Security) and it would be no different to disabling the
firewall in your current router and installing one.

thanks for your reply

the 4 port mentor r/m which rl supplies are selling cheap is the FR4 at
43.89 inc vat inc microfilter

not sure if that includes a firewall or not

but seems a good deal none-the-less

Could just take the plunge and hit the reset button but then you need to
spend the time re-configuring it all :S

thanks

but i have already done that

from what i can find out , apart from losing my settings , it also turns the
firewall full on

i am trying to 'punch holes ' in it for port 80 etc but would rather just
turn it fully off for the moment until i get up and running

rgds
