Airport Machintosh 802.11b Vigor 2200 WE router

Hi,

I have a Dell dimension laptop with windows XP running on it. I also have a
adsl router from Vigor (2200 WE) installed in my house. My laptop connects
with the Vigor through a 3COM wireless lan pc card. It works perfect! But
now my problem...

I also have a Macintosh G4 (Imac) I have installed an airport card in this
machine. It's supossed to work with the same standard as my router 802.11b.
But my Mac with OS X installed on it cannot find the wireless network!

Do I need a base station or something? Can anybody please advise my?

I'm assuming that the Vigor is a wireless router. You should have it set
to do NAT and the Mac to do DHCP.

Two things might prevent your Mac from seeing it. Encription being on or
it set up to be a private network.

Passwords are handled differently. The Mac scrambles a text password and
the XP wants to use a binary one. the Apple Airport Utility will show
you the hex version of its text password which your XP will accept and
remember. Going the other way may not be so easy. Perhaps turning off
encryption long enough to set up your Vigor from the Mac will work and
then configure XP to match.

If you are set to use a private network, then enter that name in Apple
Airport Utility and go from there.

I have an additional question Ron. We have a Mac G3 Powerbook and G3
Ibook, looking to get the Titanium sometime next year. Have a wired
network and want to go wireles without going with the airport, that thing
is too expensive for what you get. Any suggestions? I understand that
there are two wireless routers that work well, or at least ok, with Macs,
do you know what the best bet for the money is?
