Aironet on Ubuntu/Feisty cannot obtain IP address

I've got a dual-boot, HP Pavilion ze4400 with clean install of
Ubuntu/Feisty. Cisco Aironet 340 works in Windows, but cannot obtain IP
address in Linux on wifi networks (open and/or encrypted).

The Airo card is supposed to work "out of the box" in Ubuntu/Feisty. But I
think there is a driver problem. Why am I getting "Rx invalid nwid:3270"
in iwconfig when the essid is right? (See below).
