After WMP54GS install I get VFAT error Win98 desktop

I have just purchased a linksys wireless router (WRT54GS) and adapter card
(WMP54GS). I tried installing the adapter in a PC with Win98, but after it
detects the new hardware, and reboots, it hangs with a VFAT error. If I
boot in safe mode and remove the driver, it will then boot up just fine. I
tried installing the adapter in another win98 machine, and it had no
problems (other than flaky connection). Has anyone had this problem?
