That's by design -- You need to reset the router using
the reset button on the back -- on the MN500 a paperclip
or pen is needed to press the button hole.

After that, the router loses all configuration --
password reverts to admin, etc. -- and you'll have to
setup the router again

You need to have an IP address in the same range as the router to access it.

Ignore that other ID10T as he does not know the MN-100, MN-500, & MN-700
well enough to be listened to.

Statically assign an IP address in the 192.168.2.* range like
192.168.2.50 then browse to http://192.168.2.1 and you can access the
basestation management utility.

I personally have done this on several hundred of the units & it has
worked so long as I was on the same network (please note every time I
said network I was referring to a TCP/IP network from the IP address &
subnet mask) as the router.

I was able to do all of this, but when I do it, and connect
back to the base station management tool (BSMT) over the
web, it works until I try to go into "Local Area Network"
or "Wide Area Network", and then the BSMT never responds
after that until I hard reset the device. At which point I
can get in and do everything that I need to until I try to
go to those two links.

Of course, while the BSMT is hung, I'm still connected to
the rest of the network. So everything works up until the
point where I want to change the configuration. At which
point the only way back is to restore factory defaults.

Am I the only one having this problem?

I would try unplugging the base station for a couple minutes to see how it
reacts. Then if it is still behaving the same way, reset it using the reset
hole in the back, and give it a fresh shot of the information.
