After setup, MN520 worked. Shut down & reboot, NOTHING

After I ran the setup, everything was working fine. I even
wirelessly download W2K service pack 4 and installed it.
After I go to reboot after the SP4 update, I can't connect
to the internet anymore. If I place my pointer over MS
broadband network utilty icon in the tray it says I have a
good connection. If I open the utility, it tells me the
network and internet are unavailable. The laptop is 2 feet
from the MS router. What in the world happened?

Have you checked your settings? I'm not sure what's in the SP4 update for
Windows 2000, but it may have changed the TCP/IP settings and you should go
into Network Connections and verify all are the same. Also check to make
sure it didn't reset your Workgroup and Channel settings.

I checked the TCP/IP properties and it's set to "obtain an
IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server address
automatically."
The workgroup does not look like it has changed. (I called
it "FAMILY")
Is the channel setting you refer to under the device
manager > network adapters > Microsoft Broadband
Networking Wireless Notebook Adapter > Advanced
>Channel ??????????

When I go to the MS Broadband Utility > Tools > Adapter
Settings, the Channel: keeps flipping between channel 1
and channel 4.
Please help or I will have to be talked off of a bridge by
Bill Gates.

I honestly don't believe Bill Gates will assist you. 8-) Yes, that's where
your channel setting would be. Or check in Device Manager, right-click and
Properties. You shouldn't have a wavering Channel in there, unless there's
another wireless near your system close to the same channel. You could try
bumping your LAN channel up to 11 and see how it does.

I spent 2 hours on the phone with a Microsoft technician
and he could not help. I eventually had to tell him that I
have to go. It was 10:30PM EST. Everytime I uninstall the
MN-520 card and its software and then reinstall the card,
the MN-520 works beautifully. All I have to do is shut
down the computer and boot back up and NUTHIN'. No
connection. I did this TWICE on my own before I spoke with
the tech and the tech ran me through it once. He was
totally stumped. This is unreal. Should I just uninstall
the card, reinstall it, and NEVER TURN THE COMPUTER OFF?
LOL! I'm losing my mind over this and I have a degree in
electrical engineering.

Okay, I don't know what tech support did, but are you sure the laptop has an
IP within the range of the base station numbers? Go to Start/Run and type
in "cmd" without the quotes, then click OK. At the command prompt, type
"ipconfig" without the quotes again, and see what number it gives you. If
it is in the default 192.168.2.2-40 range (unless you've changed the base
station) then we're okay on this. If not, type "ipconfig /release" without
quotes followed by "ipconfig /renew" (no quotes) to bump it back to
receiving the proper IP assignment from the base station.

After I do what you say it comes up with this:

Windows 2000 IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:
Media State..............: Cable Disconnected
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>

That's all it has. The Microsoft tech ran me through this
exercise just like you have.

Thanks again, but I'm still bummed out.

And one other thing: I did what you said (ipconfig/release)
and it says this:

Error: No adapters bound to TCP/IP are enabled for DHCP

FWIW

Here's one other symptom I'm seeing:
If I go into the MS Broadband Utilty > Tools > Adapter
settings > Configure and change it to "This is a computer-
to-computer (ad hoc) network and then click on OK AND THEN
GO AND DO WHAT YOU SAID with "cmd" I get the following:

Windows 2000 IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:
Connection specific DNS suffix .:
Autoconfiguration IP Address....:192.168.2.1
Subnet Mask.....................:255.255.255.0
Default Gateway.................:68.39.112.1

And then it goes back to the C: etc. prompt

What a flurry of posts, huh? Here's what I've done:

If I go into the "Network and Dial-Up Connections" and
click on the LAN's propertiesand then go to the TCP/IP
properties and ask Windows to automatically obtain the IP
address and the DNS address, and then go back to the "cmd,
ipconfig" thing, it gives me:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix .:
IP Address......................: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask.....................: 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway.................:

I'm still in the ad hoc mode on the broadband utility >
tools > adapter settings > configure screen.
