Well, the Netgear's never given me any problems. Works with Netgear
(obviously) and D-Link wireless cards, and should work with any
others.

Good bundle, if it's still available, is the DG834G + Netgear 802.11g
PCMCIA card for about £90, from Amazon.

Google this group to get an idea of the problems people seem to be
getting on a regular basis with Netgear hardware :-/

It's really wierd! I am on my *THIRD* Netgear router (going up DG814, DG824M
and now DG834G) with zero problems with ANY of them! I would certainly
recommend them (obviously!)

The fact that in six followups everyone mentions the Netgear and
no-one mentions the USR gives some idea of which is the more popular
box.

It's like comparing a Ford Fiesta with a Smart Car. If 1 in 50
vehicles fails in the first year you're infinitely more likely to hear
about the Ford failures on a car newsgroup because there'll be so many
more owners. But you still have a 98% chance of buying a vehicle
which won't let you down, no matter which you opt for.

I suspect at the end of the day there is little choose between any of
the major brands on units with similar spec.

connection in the 2200 hours since the last firmware upgrade)

Id go Netgear (and have used the last 3 generations of this kit myself) -
and yes, as per the previous post, the Netgear is the most popular wireless
modem router in europe (well it certainly is for the distributors I deal
with)...its like the Ford Mondeo of the router world - maybe not quite as
good in some areas as say a Draytek or Zyxel (but they cost 2x as much) but
plenty for most people..the USR is the also ran. Look out for a good bundle
deal with a card - do a search on google you should find one sub £100 with
a card thrown in.
