Advice on network type

Hi.
Friend of mine has a pc, WinXp and broadband external modem.
She would like to network her laptop to it to share files and internet
connection, wirelessly
Would Add Hoc with wireless network cards be the way to go
or would a wireless Router and a wireless card for the laptop be better?
