I have a laptop I use at work and at home.

At work I use it on a wireless connection (should look at make of
access point - sorry) and connection is rock solid.

At home I use hardwired connection to home router but want to use
wireless. I have a Belkin (model F5D7330 "2.4Ghz 802.11g") but when I
try to use it I get periodic drops in the connection.

Will getting a better wireless point for home help? What would be a
better one?

thanks

Wireless can be a bit temperamental, 2.4GHz is very much 'line of
sight' and it's intolerant of obstacles. 1 wall will severely reduce a
signal, 2 can kill it and 3 certainly will.

Is the layout at home such that your laptop can 'see' the WAP? Can you
do anything to reduce the walls and obstructions between them?

I ended up running my WAP in the loft (this is a bungalow) and that
gives me pretty good cover everywhere as it's only 1 layer of (non foil
backed) plaster-board in between the WAP and this laptop.

When I was testing it tonight it was six inches away from the laptop and
still getting connection drops!

Thanks for your comments - I wonder if wireless is worth it - must look
at the WAP at work and see what it is

Suggest you might try changing the channel setting of the router.
