Hi there,

Just after advice on setting up a backup ADSL connection in our office.

At the moment we are on a 2mb mistral connection. Every now and again
we loose connectivity. This doesn't happen very often but we had a
major outage for about 7 hours on Friday due to a BT ATM problem.

We managed to temporarily use another plus.net broadband connection
that a tenant uses in our office for the day so it wasn't a major
issue. This line goes through the same exchange but wasn't affected by
the outage.

I have been looking at getting a backup connection and initially looked
into getting cable modem but telewest cannot offer this in our area.
They can only offer us the ADSL service and they are saying it is on
the same BT equipment in the exchange.

Can anyone offer any thoughts on any recommended ISPs and any ideas on
how to check whether the ADSL is on different equipment. I was
thinking that if the provider has their own equipment in the exchange
(LLU) then it should be pretty fault tolerant. I do not want to get a
back up connection installed only to find that when our mistral
connection dies the other one does (although I do appreciate that there
may be times when this will happen).

I was initially looking at using plus.net as the last few times we have
had problems the connection of one of our tenants on plus.net has
continued to work fine.

Any ideas and opinions much appreciated

Thanks

John

Speak to Zen internet and see what they can offer, I think you can have a
plan that gives you priority for service failure. And there support is 2nd
to none and is UK based with trained IT staff.

And no I don't work for them, just a happy customer.
