looking for simple 512k broadband. Have a single pc at the moment,
but may be looking at getting a small (2) network going soon. Who do
people recommend...tiscali and plusnet seem to be doing a good starter
deal of £25 all in inc comms hardware...any thoughts?
TIA

Forget Tiscali. Plusnet is a good choice but look in
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ to compare other products.

There's no such thing as a free lunch - you pay for the hardware through
your rental (the PlusNet package is just £21.99 if you source your own h/w,
for instance). If more than one machine is likely you need a modem/router to
avaoid paying again when you add the network.

Can recommend PlusNet so far from my own experiences and from following
this newsgroup for some time now.

£21.99 for the unlimited home "self-install" option. Comes with some nice
extras too.

Feel free to use my referral id if you do sign up with them, it's
"worship". Might save me a few pence.

The Easy Starter Package includes free activation fee + modem which is I
think quite good if you don't have anything yet. The only problematic
about this offer is the modem, heard it isn't that reliable .. Anyway, I'm
a happy PlusNet customer, just been with them for a week .. and you could
actually call their support 24x7 ..

I was looking at plusnet but in the end I went for www.freedom2surf.com
22.50 a month, there is "only" 50mb webspace not 250 that plusnet give you
but from what I understand the plusnet £21.99 setup does not give you virus
checking on incoming mail, freedom2surf does... and it has everything else
( mysql database, cgi/asp support, frontpage extentsions, static ip etc ).
Activation is free but you have to pay for the hardware.. but if you are
considering a network in the near future you'll end up buying a combined
router/modem anyway.. so you might as well do that now rather than pay
£25pcm for plusnet and the "free" modem.
If you use "crafty" as your referer when signing up I'd be much obliged..
