Is there a web based review detailing the pros and cons of cable and ADSL?
I've had a look via Google but despite a few tantalising links I can't find
much of substance.

Gareth.

What are you after? Performance or support? I've had 56k modem, ISDN, Cable
and ADSL and I can't tell much difference between cable and ADSL. However
I've only had my ADSL for a few days so can't comment on the stability. I
was with NTL for 14 months on cable and I was a fairly heavy user and I only
had one outage of 5 hours in all that time.

On the customer service side, the cable operators are not the best (to be
polite). Also, the mainstream DSL providers are not great either. Depends on
what you need - customer service comes high on the priority list for me. As
far as technology goes, some people think cable is a superior technology
that has more life in it than ADSL, but this shouldn't be a concern for a
few years yet, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I'm sure others can fill in some more detail.

Mark.

Cable is better for gaming normally as it has a lower latency, also your not
bogged down with massive contention, I use adsl at work and think its great
as well, im moving to adsl now only for price and a Fixed IP,

Blueyonder cable for me has been very reliable, fast but its getitng
expensive compared to the adsl pricing now available.

If you want the best performance go cable, if you want a cheap no frills BB
connection go adsl.

I think you'll find that there's not a lot of difference. I get 20-25ms
to jolt. Contention is also not an issue as BT generally keep the pipes
upgraded (at the moment). I have however heard that contention could be
a problem on cable, and not so much for DSL. My personal experience of
both is that there's none at all (at the moment).

I think that performance is better on ADSL. How many cable operators are
offering 2mbit now? The only issue with ADSL for me is the reach. I
cannot get 2mbit services because I'm too far from the exchange. Luckily
this is not a problem on cable due to the cabinet boxes.

50% of them. The other one is only offering 1Mb, but is rumoured to
be offering 3Mb on-demand soon.

NTL?

I notice that the NTL upload speed for anything other than 1Mb is very low -
only 128 Kbps for the 600K service for example. Surely this doesn't compare
well to BT ADSL (if you can get it).

Gareth.
