I have several PC's in my home, all ethernet'd into a hub, along with an
Alcatel speedtouch Pro modem which is permamently connected. All the PC's
can surf the internet net at the same time. Is there any software I can
install on my main machine that will show me the information traffic on my
other machines? I don't need to know details about the traffic, I just need
to able to see when a particular machine is downloading from or uploading to
the internet and I need to see it on my main PC.
Thanks for any help.

Hi

There is a relatively easy solution if you're running Windows. MRTG is an
excellent application to use for monitoring traffic (and tons of other info
as well) and you can download an application here http://snipurl.com/4xsk
called MRTG Bundle, it will install MRTG, RRDTOOL, Apache 1.3 and several
utilities. You only need to modify a 'routers.txt' file to specify which
devices you want to monitor and away you should go, nice pretty graphs on
traffic usage. The only drawback is it requires the install directory to be
on your drive C: and is about 70Mb in size so you need to make sure you
have that space available but apart from that it's fine and it's an easy
method of learning about MRTG etc.

HTH

Regards

Bill

This slutions a little off the wall, but if you have a Pc runnig Server 2003
you could use the network packet monitoring software installed with it.
I havent tried it myself, but i guess thats what you'll be wanting.
