May be a long shot but is it possible to use ADSL router to work on NTL
broadband? I'm trying to help a friend who've just moved to NTL broadband
and as expected, he just couldn't plug his NTL modem to the router and
expect thing to work. The router in question is the Belkin ADSL Wireless
modem/router (F5D76324uk), appreciate if someone can tell me if I'm going
to waste more time to get this setup to work.

the short answer is no it won't work.

The long answer is that the NTL thingy won't provide IP addresses and
do the NAT for multiple PCs and the Belkin can't do that if the NTL
WAN connection is plugged into a LAN port, so I think you're stuck.

I have a non-ADSL equivalent here somewhere which has the opposite
problem - its a PITA to get to work with ADSL.

Thanks, will ask him to get the cable version instead.

Assuming it wont destroy it, you could try the opposing hardware's firmware
on it? Probably a dire idea but from what i seen they're the same piece of
kit, prob biggggggg differences hardware wise tho. I'd try it but hey

the "broadband router" has an ethernet WAN input, the "ADSL modem
router" an RJ11 phone line interface.

I would say they are sufficiently different to not want to try
cross-fertilisation of firmware :-)

nope - dont even bother trying...just get a cable router - Netgear WGT624 or
