ADSL PCMCIA or USB - High processing system

I have a system that currently performs high video processing, and a lot of
reads / writes to disk. We can call the system processor intensive. We are
running Debian Unstable. We are currently having problems with our pcmcia
slot on this board, but we do have an available usb port. What are the pros
/ cons to using a usb adsl modem, versus a pcmcia adsl modem? An obvious pro
for us is that usb already works, but is there support in linux? Will it
steal processor time which a good pcmcia modem would not steal? Is there
support for pcmcia adsl modems in linux?

Any opinions or experience would be appreciated,

Your best option under Linux is to get an ethernet modem ( ie, a
router/modem combo) I used one sold by Novatech in the UK for
essentially the same price as a USB modem (it is now something like 25
pounds which is about 40 dollars US.) It had one usb and one ethernet
port on it. Under Linux just connect to the ethernet port and away you
go. Ethernet under Linux is pretty stable and well established. USB is
still a bit flakey.
Oops just discovered that they have run out of the above, and only have
the 4 port (ie 4 ethernet ports) modem/router for about 45 pounds.
