ADSL with out a voice contract

Hi all,

Currently have ntl broadband (and no phone line) but am moving to a
non-cabled street (boo!). I was wondering if it is possible to get
ADSL without having a voice contract as I will never use it as I have
squillions of free mobile minutes...

If not. Is there any alternative to BT and which is the cheapest,
decent one.

Apologies if these questions are seem a bit dense but I've been with
ntl since before broadband so don't know what else is out there!!

TIA

You need a BT analogue line irrespective of whether you intend to use
it for voice.

Depends on the location but very unlikely.

Bulldog do a BB and Phone service for £40 if you can get them/it in your
area:

Hi,

You will need a voice contract and a BT line to get ADSL. I don't know if
there's better deals than BT offer, but unfortunately there is one deal
you can't get which is BT's Light User scheme as that isn't compatible
with ADSL.

With Regards,

Dave,

Surely they deliver their service over a BT analogue line, which can
be used for voice calls. Are you saying Homecall provide an ADSL only
service with no voice contract?

Well there is ITplc - if the OP is happy with their T&C and is sure he won't
be making many outgoing calls.

Personally, I would probably stay with BT...

I was just wondering if you ment by 'no voice contact' that you want BT to
provide a line for ADSL only, for a one off fee, with no ongoing line
rental.

If so the answer will be definitely NO.

Find a consenting neighbour with ADSL connection, share it via wireless
link.
Laugh all the way past the BT exchange to the bank, and so will your
neighbour.
And you can even have VoIP from Skype, FWD etc.

Martin

Its worth remembering tho that this is in most cases expressly
forbidden by the T&C of the ISP. If your neighbour is caught doing it,
they'll lose their ADSL, and possibly get blacklisted with other ISPs.
So consider this carefully...
