hi got an adsl network with a laptop on wirless and a desktop wired
into an adsl modem/router, both work on the net but wont see each
other in network places, both running a firewall have tried turning
them off, is it because one is wired and the other is using an access
point or am I wrong, if so how do I get them to see each other.

TIA for any replies

I have two laptops that normally run wirelessly and a desktop that is wired.
It does work seamlessly.

Open up a CMD window and run ipconfig on both computers. Identify the IP
address (something like 192.168.7.50) and use the ping command using the
address of the other computer (e.g. ping 192.168.7.50 but replacing the IP
address with your own). Do you get a reply? If you do the computers are
"seeing" each other at a network level and the problem is elsewhere.

Have you enabled File and Printer Sharing on both computers? Look in the
network properties.

John

And make sure that both machines belong to the same workgroup,
generall MSHOME or WORKGROUP, but can be anything as long as both are
the same.
