I just went through this with a friend. I called SBC tech support, and they
said that yes, any router that does PPPoE will work fine.
I encourage people to do this too -- not only to get out of paying more for
networkable gear from SBC, but because the PPPoE software for Windows is
absolute crap. Connecting with a router is always *so* much more reliable, and
easier to troubleshoot.
This last time I did it because my friend had only Win95. SBC's software
requires Win98SE, which isn't even available anymore. Buying a router is
cheaper than upgrading Windows, and works better too.
