Are there any wirelss ADSL modems with built in hard-drives?

Was thinking of getting an external HDD and attaching it to my router but
thinking it would be nice for an all-in-one unit - are there any such
devices out there at the moment?

Thanks

Just curious - why would you want (or need) a hard drive attached to your
modem/router..?

Well, I have a desktop and laptop on broadband and I want to archive and
store data in a central storage space which can easily be accessed by both
devices, without having to leave one of the units permanently switched on.

Most people plug in external HDD to their router but I would prefer the one
device.

99.9% sure you won't get one - for now, there isn't a market. Get a
NAS (Network Attached Storage) device to plug into a spare RJ45 port
on the router or leave a PC on all the time as a server device.

Surely as more and more people get broadband these sort of devices will be
more commonplace.

And yes, I did consider getting a NAS device to attached to the router but
don't like the idea of another device, want to keep it as minimal as
possible. Can't believe the manufacturers are so-sighted in not bringing out
such a device..

I'd much rather have separate devices - my modem, router and WAP are all
separate and that's the way I'd prefer it to stay - simpler, and easier to
manage and diagnose. Why anyone would want to combine a NAS device with a
router, I have no idea.

never seen such a beast, why not buy a NAS drive, they aren't that expensive
now, just sits on your network..

I'd buy an all in one ADSL modem/router/network storage device, if one was
available at a reasonable price.

Where do you draw the line though. Would you buy a combined ADSL
modem/router/NAS and printer?

Hmmm - what HDD are they plugging in, and to what router ? I know that
things move on in computing, but I've not known of such a mix, so far!

Do, please, refer to posts, or manufacturer name and model numbers.

Just like someone asking about a router which has Gigabit ports - there's
just not enough market for such a specialist device. How many firms, let
alone homes, have Gigabit networks ? If they do have such a network, the
low speed of current broadband connections are at such low speed there is
no likelihood of any firm developing a router suitable to link 1 - 8 Mbps
to 1000 Mbps... there are ethernet switches which have 10/100 or 100/1000
Mbps ports, so a router with a 10/100 Mbps port linked to a 100/1000 Mbps
switch would be an easy and cheap way, to link some 'slow' broadband link
to the firms 'fast' network...

Let's just say that while it might seem a great idea to you, there's good
reason why someone in marketing would probably get the sack if they tried
to convince the MD there was a high demand for same. With the price of a
cheap linux box (built and ordered from a box-shifter) coming in at under
200 quid, or something like a NAS-type device at 100 (add your own HDs) I
can see no point doing it "all in one" because there is so much more that
can be done (flexibility of OS, power supplies, etc) with separate boxes.
