I recently applied to upgrade to ADSL Max and after waiting 23 days emailed
technical support and got the following reply:

Thank you for contacting Tiscali Customer Support.

I understand from your e-mail that you wish to upgrade your Broadband
package to 8 Mbps connectivity package.

We are pleased to know that you wish to upgrade your broadband connectivity
speed to higher speed.

We would be more than happy to provide you higher speed on your line.
However, after reviewing your e-mail and referring to records, I have
confirmed that your account is enabled for 512Kbps Mbps and it is the
maximum package which can be provided on this circuit.

The capability of package depends upon the circuit built which is from BT. I
hope you will understand this as a process, however, not as lack of on our
part. I really appreciate your patience and cooperation in working with us
to resolve this issue.

As per information given by BT resources, maximum broadband speeds that your
telephone line supports is 512 Kbps. I am sorry to say that it would not be
possible to give higher speeds on your line as of now, however in near
future circuits would be upgraded which would enable us to upgrade the
speeds on your line. Please bear with us until then. You would be informed
through an e-mail once the upgrades are complete.

The line test we do online can be up to 98% accurate. Unfortunately there
are a number of technical reasons your line can still fail after the initial
check. This may be due to the exchange, noise on the line or the measured
length between your property and the exchange along the telephone routing
network.

I apologise for the inconvenience it may cause. Please feel free to reply to
this e-mail for any clarifications or queries. If there is anything else we
can do to make things easier for you, please let us know. It will be our
pleasure to assist you.

Regards,

Tiscali Customer Support

What does it actually mean?

Thanks in anticipation.
Chris

Either the exchange cannot support it, or your line cannot support it.

What is your current SNR and attentuation? What exchange are you on?

It means your line doesn't support anything faster than 512k, according
to Tiscali.

Have you tried checking for yourself via the BT Broadband web site?

Tiscali customer support is illiterate?

Or perhaps English is not their first language.

Chris,

Tiscali database on 'who can get what' is screwed.

Try your number is here :
http://www.adslchecker.bt.com/pls/ad...hecker.welcome

And again in here:
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/phoneno.php

And let us all know what these two checks reveal.

I suspect that Tiscali are not telling you correct information.

Chris,

I meant to say, I know a friend who is with Tiscali MAX and when he checks
his own number with them, it says that he cannot get in and only offers him
1mbit. Despite this he is already on ADSL Max with them, and he gets neraly
4.5mbps! What a joke !!

it means Tiscali are a bunch of wankers and you should leave at the
earliest opportunity. They don't put Max on longer lines, and they
decline to provide ADSL on the longest lines, whereas other providers
don't have such self imposed restrictions.

MAC please.
