Surge protector is not designed properly for DSL signals. Filter
(phone side connection) simply blocks DSL signals so that phones will
not 'eat' the DSL signal.

Typically destructive surges use same frequencies. That protector
will only see a surge when a surge overwhelms and probably destroys
the filter. Yes, Philt's solution will increase DSL bandwidth because
that surge protector is all but disconnected from DSL wire and outside
phone lines (the source of surges). Filter will also attempt to block
surges (what others wrongly imply the protector is doing).

Required is a new protector designed for DSL service AND with a
short and dedicated connection to earth ground. Don't for one minute
believe (as others have implied) that a protector somehow blocks or
absorbs surges. It does not. An effective protector connects surges
to earth. At all other times, a protector must appear non-existent to
DSL and phone signals. As your test has demonstrated, that protector
is not transparent (eats) DSL signals.

Does it also have the dedicated wire for a less than 3 meter
earthing connection? If not, just another reason why it is not
protecting even phones. It forgot to mention that it should not be
used on DSL. What else does it forget to mention? Or was that
information in the only place it typically should be - in numerical
spec sheet?

Oh dear. It's 'w_tom' again.

He's very confused - just ignore him.

He's is correct about most 'surge' protectors & DSL though. As for

That's why I left that bit. More by luck than judgement, I fear...the
million monkeys syndrome.
