Just brought a Safecom faceplate filter.
http://www.safecom.cn/code/sub/categ...1&subcatid=28#

Anyone know how to wire one of these? On the back are two 3 way
terminals. One marked 'line in' with terminals A G B any idea what A G
B stand for? Is this where the incoming bt line is wired?
I assume the terminals marked 2 3 5 are for further phone extensions.

Any help much appreciated

Andy

It's not totally clear from the picture whether this is a faceplate or a
complete master socket replacement.

Does it have a BT-type plug sticking out of the back which plugs into the
test socket in your existing master when you remove the existing faceplate?
If so, it is a filtered faceplate - and you don't need to touch the incoming
pair because that remains connected to the A and B terminals in the fixed
part of the existing master.

Assuming that it *is* a faceplate, the 2, 3 and 5 terminals ** are the
filtered output for connecting extension wiring to sockets which will have
analog devices (phones, fax machines, analog modems, etc.) plugged into
them. The A and B terminals (haven't a clue about G!) will enable you to
wire in an unfiltered digital extension if your ADSL equipment needs to be
somewhere other than next to the master socket.

** 2 and 5 are the main connection, and need to use one twisted pair (e.g.
blue&white + white&blue) in your extension cable. 3 is the ringer circuit
and can use a wire from any of the other pairs

Looks like it is a full master - i.e. a standalone socket.
It would be functionally equivalent to a plug-in filter.

It could be used to replace the Operators NTE (Master), but
that would be in breach of contract and it probably lacks
the surge protection of a PSTN master socket. Use it as an
extension at the Modem/Router location.

Incoming wiring from 2 and 5 would go to A and B. The
Ground terminal will not be used on a PSTN (loop-start)
line. Incoming bell wire is not connected. Any downstream,
filtered sockets could connect to the 2, 3 and 5
terminals, but you wouldn't be able to access the ADSL
service from them.
