ADSL Enabled line gives good Dialup

I've had my line ADSL enabled and am now waiting for the router
hardware before finally getting some decent speed.

The funny thing was that I've only been getting 36Kbps connection
speeds via my modem for months yet with the ADSL enabled line I'm
getting 45Kbps.

Interesting, not surprising just interesting.

I thought that I'd share this experience because that's the sort of
guy I am.

Sounds as though you had a DACS line, which was removed in order for ADSL to
be installed.

VERY interesting .. as BT acknowledge a problem in that some v.90
modems throughput can be reduced by as much as 20% on ADSL enabled
lines !

Not really - fitting ADSL to the line often affects the intial connection
speed of a dial-up modem

Often it goes down but quite often up..

My local exchange has recently been upgraded to BB (I've got mine!) and a
neighbour (who hasn't upgraded from dial-up) now accesses the Net at 44Kbs
rather than the 28Kbs she had for months (using a V90 modem). Could this
have anything to do with the exchange upgrade?

DACS........for some reason, she's had it removed. Nothing to do with ADSL.

It can't be due to DAC's being removed - as the OP originally had over 33.6K
as the connection speed.

Sorry, what's "DACS"?

I told you it was interesting.

I'm almost tempted to stop the ADSL and make use of the awesome power
of 44Kbps,
(JOKE).

Once the hardware comes I'm expecting not to have to use the dialup
ever again, or until they say 'sorry sir but your on the end loop of
an inverted Dux tranducer that's suffering from post installation
blues.'.

I'm not saying I'm unlucky or even pessimistic but I'm expecting to
selling the stuff on ebay shortly.

I'm even surprised that I'm that near to the exchange.

Damn my glass is half full, I'd go a fill it up but I'd probably spill
some.
