ADSL + Dlink-614+

I have been looking around for a few tips on connecting an Dlink ADSL
modem to a Dlink 614+ Wireless router.

modem ---->>>>> wireless--->>>> 6 machines (2 wired, 4 wireless)

one: Does the adsl modem connect to the WAN port on the wireless router?

two: Where will the NAT be done (i used to use dial up and ICS that
connection), is NAT needed?

It sems the simplest way to set this up is to connect the adsl modem to
a machine and then ICS the connection, but i would like to use the
router as the persistant gateway.


any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

That's the correct arrangement.
Which DI-614+ do you have? Rev A (2 antennas) or Rev B (1 antenna)?

Yes. WAN is "wide area network" which is another name for the
internet. I think you need to read the quick start guide or manual:

Do NOT turn on ICS on your computah. NAT is done by the router
(DI-614+). Set all your computahs to get their IP address from the
ISP (which really means DHCP or dynamic IP). The router will provide
the IP addresses to the computers.

Don't do that. If you've installed ICS, go into the control panel and
remove it. You don't need it, and probably don't want it. NAT in the
router does most everything that ICS can do.

Yes

The router does the Network address translation, as well as (usually) some
sort of firewalling. .

yes, unless you have bought 6 IP addresses from your ISP.

No, the simplest way is to use the router as you originally thought. ICS is
much less secure, less stable.
