ADSL Confused

Hi,

I wonder if you guys could help me.
I am thinking of going onto ADSL, I am not sure of what is involved and
would be grateful if you could answer the questions I have, even though they
may be idiotic.

I have checked and can get ADSL.

To go on to ADSL would BT have to alter the wiring or the connection boxes?
If so who pays for this?

I have 3 wireless phones, one of which is directly connected into a phone
socket.
Would these interfere with ADSL.

I have SKY and the above phone connected into a double adaptor which fits
into the phone socket.
Would I need to fit the microfilter onto the adaptor.

Thinking of having another phone socket installed dedicated to the computer,
not a extension.
Are these expensive to install?

Thanx

Probably at the exchange, but not at your house. The cost is included in
whatever setup charges you have to pay to your chosen ISP.

No - but ADSL will interfere with *them* unless you use filter(s)

You will either have to filter each socket into which any of these analog
devices are plugged, or fit a replacement filtered master socket

Do you mean an entirely separate phone line? If so, you'll have to pay the
standard BT installation charge (100/150 quid - can't remember?) plus the
ADSL setup charge. But *why* do you want to do this when you can have ADSL
on your *existing* line?

Chris

I think most of your questions have been answered
However, another source of info to find out what is involved is to ask a
prospective ISP (ADSL provider)
I dropped PlusNet a few emails before signing up and was answered very
quickly.

I have heard Andrews and Arnold are very helpful
Also PlusNet (www.plus.net).
I have just had ADSL installed and it is great
I would suggest avoiding well known names e.g. Tiscali , BT and Freeserve
from what I have read on the newsgroups.
I went with Plus Net as they are very helpful, offer more features than most
(e.g. large web space, fixed IP address, PHP and MySQL with the web space
etc.) and cheaper £18.99 or £21.99 (former can't do P2P or binary
newsgroups)
If you did choose Plus Net I would be very grateful if you would use my
referral ID "neltek" - will save me a few pennies.

cheers

Ian
