I have a D-Link router that works only barely to share an
ADSL internet connection in my homenetwork. I'd like to
get a router that doesn't need so much day-to-day
maintenance just to make it function. Are the microsoft
routers compatable with ADSL internet connections?

That depends on how you get your IP address. Do you use PPPoE, PPPoA,
Dynamic, or Static for your IP address?

Answer that & we can help you better.

Also if your broadband ISP is AOL the hardware from Microsoft will not
work as AOL refuses to use the standard TCP/IP stack that Windows
provides, even though the one that Windows has is much better then the
one AOL has.

I use a PPPoE service. Unsecured websites load just fine
over the wireless link, but secure sites will not. The D-
Link folks have told me that it is an ADSL issue and that
thier router can't help me. Will the microsoft router
support the shared connection?

It can work with a PPPoE connection. the only issue is that most ISP's
using PPPoE will send a PADT that terminates the PPPoE session if you
are not using it. To workaround that issue you will need to use the
maximum idle time & auto reconnect features.
