I was wondering who would be a good choice for ADSL in the UK. I can't
get cable, so that's right out. It's difficult to see who is doing well
since most of the companies seem to be getting complaints of some form.

So, based on price, speed and reliability who would be a good choice to
get ADSL from? Thanks for any help.

www.adslguide.org provide one of the best representations of the
information you are looking for.
People who are connected to these networks can get a speed test on their
line, the result goes into the adslguide database, as a result, all the
graphs you see are based on real statistics. All the opinions on the site
are those of the people who are signed up to the networks.
Pay a visit to the compare ISP feature, it's good if you have a selection of
ideas and want to narrow it down to one choice.

Before you select a supplier it might be a good idea to be certain of what
you want from them.

I take it from what you've written that you want a home ADSL service. Do
you want 512K or 1Mb download speed?

If the latter not all suppliers can provide it just yet.

Do you want static IP address(es)?

Do you want any extras such as email and web hosting?

Do you want unrestricted access so you can use P2P networks and the like?

Do you want access to a news server?
Do you want access to binary newsgroups?

<blatent plug>
I recommend UK Free Software Network. I run the service though so you
should be aware that I am very biased

PlusNet recently won service and reliability award, are 4th best for speed,
and offer the best value:
£18.99 p.m. if you don't need P2P or binaries, £21.99 otherwise.
Just a happy customer since May.
(but if you sign up use 'jerryw' as referrer and save me few pence)

Martin
