Hello,

I currently have Virgin.Net running from BT via a Netgear ADSL DG 834
modem/router (with 3 PCs connected) and NIC, and I am considering
changing over to Virgin Media Broadband via Cable, they supply a
Motorola modem with the install, but as I understand it I will need a
cable router, as you cant use an ADSL router, is this correct? If so
The router I plan to get would be the Netgear RP614,is this fairly
straightforward to setup with the cable modem?

Is it possible to run the two different systems on one PC, both ADSL
and Cable? Not that I really want to, if the cable BB works out OK
I'll ditch BT and the ADSL service anyway.

Thanks

correct, the cable modem connects to the WAN port of the router, the
PCs to the LAN ports.

if you arrange the LAN side IP addresses so they don't clash and join
them together you could switch default gateway from one to the other
easily.

Couldn't he also use a load balancing router (DrayTek?), an ADSL
Ethernet Modem on one of the WAN ports and the cable modem on the
other? [1]

All the best ..

[1] It could turn out an expensive experiment but ..

Yep.

Not really, Linksys do a dual WAN port router for about 40 quid IIRC.

yes, although in my experience Ethernet modems on PPPoA ADSL are best
avoided (if indeed they actually exist !).
