This is most often caused by misconfigured firewalls. First run the
Network Setup Wizard on both machines. This may be enough to take care
of the problem. Make sure that if you are running a third-party
firewall you go into Control Panel and disable the XP SP2 Windows
Firewall after running the Wizard. Make sure that you configure the
third-party firewall to allow the lan as trusted. I usually use an IP
range to do this. For example: 192.168.1.0-192.168.1.254 which will
work for a Linksys router subnet unless you changed it. If you aren't
using a third-party firewall, then during the Wizard Setup just say
"yes" to File & Printer Sharing and it will properly configure the
Windows Firewall.
