Adjusting inet usage to Twittering-age?

Partly because I'm located in the 3rd-world [going 4th]
with slow/expensive inet-conectivity, I've never seen
facebook. Also I've long known that the HERD mentality
is what brings results like the global-economic-crisis.

OTOH, we can't remain isolated. For years I've had a
solution against dancing-cartoons-in-yo-face
since http killed the original getting-text-to-read interntion
of inet: by using lynx to fetch & accumulate a numer of URL's
contents, while my attention is fetching individual emails.

Questions:
What's the typical podcast file-size per minute sound-play?

If twitter was originated for cell-phone SMS: 160 char,
what does it mean when htttp-pages give links to twitter;
i.e. can Twitter messages be exchanges via an inet connection,
and is it 'sparse' without dancing-cartoons-in-yo-face,
and can it be run on eg. lynx/elinks?

How do people 'cope' with blogs, where one-cycle of comment
and read replies to your comment, requires AT LEAST 2 d/ls
of the full article and ALL the comments that came before yours?

Is the downgrading/degeneration of the original inet intention
related to the new-fad idea that people can live on credit?

== TIA.

I don't know how you can avoid everything, but you can certainly reduce
the wasted download of adverts with Firefox or Chrome and adblock plus.
You might also be able to improve matters using squid with carefully
tuning.

I use the console mode twidge client. I don't know how economical it is
on protocol, but at least I don't see any of the crap going on behind the
scenes.
