Most of the free modem deals offered with a new Broadband account seem to be
USB connection. Is it possible to upgrade this type of setup to sharing with
a wireless network, by adding a router or do you have to ditch the USB modem
and replace by a Modem/Router?

regards, Ned

I would suggest ditching the USB and getting a router the extra cost
is minimal compared to the extra reliability and security the router
gives you. Adding a WAP is almost as expensive as getting a wireless
enabled router.

I changed this way and it was the best money I had spent...

Always, the best thing is to ditch USB modems and get a router.

That would be the easiest way.

Installing a router is signifigantly beyond most home users, far harder then
plugging in a usb modem, and following what is essentially the same
procedure as dialup....

Thankfully it is not, keeps me in good work.
Once you have logged onto a router and set it up, its a doddle, but most
people will not go that far.

Bt have kind of cracked it, their badged routers have a generic login,
meaning that users can get on the net without needing to log on, just by
plugging in.

Over the coming months you should start to see more & more ISPs
offering a wireless router as the "aquisition" product ;-)
