Here's one for all you MVPs and MCSEs. A little bit of a challenge.

I am having trouble adding a new Windows 2003 R2 server into an existing
Windows 2003 (SP1) server domain.

There are 3 existing servers on the Windows 2003 server domain and I am
trying to add a Windows 2003 R2 server to it as a backup controller to the
existing domain.

I have one creaking NT server on an old NT 4 server domain, set up with
a two way trust relationship with the Windows 2003 server domain.

When running dcpromo, the existing domain is picked up OK, but the program
errors out telling me I need to run adprep (!?)

The domain function level on the PC is Windows 2000 native

My forest function level is Windows 2000.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I am struggling. Any thoughts/suggestions/comments no matter how much
'off-the-wall' they might seem, are very much appreciated.

TX in advance

Maurice

You need to upgrade the active directory schema on the 2003 domain in
order to make the R2 server a domain controller. This needs to be
done on the schema operations master unit.

See

for information...

Have a pleasant day.
