Adding WiFi to NTL Cable broadband?

Hi,

I need a little advice on going wireless at home with NTL cable.

At present I just have a single PC hooked up to the cable TV box using a
network cable. Am I right in thinking that if I add a DLink DWL900 AP to
the cable box in place of the PC, can I then connect to the Wireless Access
from al PC's in the house?

I assume I can add a DWL-900AP to this system?

Is it as simple as that? Im trying to advise a relative on how they might
best add wifi to their system, ut cannot get to them to do the job myself,
so advice from anyone who has already done this would be great.

Thanks
George

No you can't.

You need a wireless router (cable/DSL router not an ADSL router) and not an
access point.

Something like the DI-624.

Yes but it won't allow you to access more than one PC on NTL if you connect
it to the cable modem.

Yes you can. Why are you saying that it won't work?

DWL900AP, is not an ADSL router, its a wireless access point. Nothing to do
with ADSL or Cable.

The connection to the internet is already made by the NTL cable tv box.

Just adding a DWL900AP will allow you to access the internet wirelessly
around the house.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that this will work
just fine.

Thomas

You'd need a router to perform NAT to share the IP address with the
network. The NTL STP does not, AFAIK have router functionality.

For *one* PC yes but that isn't the requirement is it?
You need a router to do NAT to be able to connect more.
That is either a PC running ICS/Linux or use a wireless router.

The DWL900AP is somewhat outdated anyway as it uses 802.11b rather than
the g standard. It's a piece of hardware that dates back to 2002.
