I have some test machines running on Hyper-V. I have XP, Win 2k3 and XP.
Originally I set them up on my D Drive but now its too full and I wish to
migrate them to my G Drive. I thought it would be quick and easy but its
proven to be a real nightmare.
Step 1, I looked to see if I could just copy the files and change the
paths. I can for the VHD and for the Snapshots but couldn’t see how to for
the actual VMs.
Next I tried to export and import. But I just get and error when trying to
imports so scrapped that.
Then I just deleted the machines one by one after merging all the snapshots
and recreated them in the new location. Fine, not a problem except:
As with a PC when you remove a lan card without first removing the device
driver, you get a locked “in use” IP address. ON the 2k* machine, its fine,
it seems to be fixed so I can still use the original IP. But on the XP
machine, I can’t. I have never yet managed to solved this problem having had
it a number of times over the years. The solutions I find on Google never
seem to work for me.
There are no hidden devices in the device manager. But the Virtual adapters
come up with #2. There are no other virtual adapters visible or hidden. I
deleted all the network items I could and ran the scan for hardware changes
and it reinstalled them with #2 again.
I went to the registry and deleted the record for the Local Network
Connection (as the new one has a 2 after it) This didn’t work either.
Does anyone know how to get rid of the original? Each time I hit this
problem, I end up reinstalling and I would really like to know how to fix it.
Many thanks
James
