Adding domain controllers to the network

I currently have a Small Business Server 2003 in my network. I plan to add
two new servers that will run windows 2003 and make them additional domain
controllers. I am running the transition pack on the small business server
and after transfering all roles to the new domain controllers, will wipe the
server clean and reinstall windows.

My question is in regards to dns. On the two new domain controllers for the
preferred and secondary dns servers IP address, what IP addresses should I
put in for each server? Should I set each DC to look at themselves as the
primary and look at the other DC as the secondary or should one server
always be the primary?

My old small busines server box will become strictly a file server. When I
reinstall windows to this box would it be OK to reinstall with the same
name? All of my shares reside on this server and it would be a lot easier
to not have to redirect shortcuts.

Thanks,

Mike

Microsoft recommends that you point the pdc fsmo to itself as it's preferred
dns server and then point other domain controllers to first the pdc fsmo and
then themselves as preferred dns servers. The link below explains more. You
will also find the support tools netdiag and dcdiag very helpful in checking
the health of your domain controllers. Netdiag can also be used on non
domain controllers. --- Steve
