Microsoft recommends that you point the pdc fsmo to itself as it's preferred
dns server and then point other domain controllers to first the pdc fsmo and
then themselves as preferred dns servers. The link below explains more. You
will also find the support tools netdiag and dcdiag very helpful in checking
the health of your domain controllers. Netdiag can also be used on non
domain controllers. --- Steve
