Adding additional wireless router

I am hoping to connect an additional wireless router to my current set up to
enable me to extend the range of my wireless network (using WDS). I am
trying to get the wireless to work across 2 buildings.

At the moment I have my cable modem coming into a Netgear FVL 328 wired
router (set as the DHCP server) connected to the Netgear is a Linksys WRT54G
configured as an Access point (with a static IP set in the range that the
Netgear supplies). This all works fine, and I can pick up a wireless signal
in the second building, but only in 1 room in the basement, and its a poor
signal. As soon as I move into another room, or further into the same room I
lose the signal entirely.

What would be the best way for me to be able to extend the signal throughout
the second building? I had been thinking of purchasing another WRT54G (but
getting the GL version) and configuring this as a 2nd access point and in a
WDS with the first WRT54G. Would this work and enable me to use the wireless
in the second building?

To provide coverage in the second location the unit would need an Omni
direction Antenna, in addition WDS cuts the signal in half. So using WDS
solution would provide poor connection (if at all).

Given your description, a solid solution can be provided by two additional
Cable/DSL Router, and a directional Antenna.

One Router has to be capable to be configured as a Client and equipped with
a Directional Antenna. This Router should be use as the receiving unit in a
spot where the signal is reaching the second building.

The second Router can be connected as an Access Point to the Receiving
Router and distribute the signal through the building.

The actual solution depends on the specific environment, there are few
permutations to solve such problem as describe in this page.
