Adding a 2003 Server to NT domain

We have an existing NT domain, and I'd like to add a 2003
server to the network for testing. It needs to
authenticate existing domain users. I was warned that
adding the new box to the domain would result in the new
one trying to upgrade existing DC's to 2k3... This would
be very bad for our existing network.
It would seem to me that as long as the new box didn't
have the role of DC, that it would work fine as a domain
member. Am I missing something?

You can add a 2003 system to a NT/2000 domain with no problem, if it's not a
DC.
