Hello all ,
Created a NT-4.0 BDC, promoted it to PDC, then I upgraded the PDC to windows
2003 server. I created a single forest domain on it. I need to install a
brand new server box with windows 2003 and make it the Master Domain
Controller and take the other upgraded box offline permanently. How do I go
about this. Appreciate your help. You folks have been a blessing to me.
Humbly appreciate you feedback.

Joey

Hi Joe,

After you are prepared to remove old DC move FSMO roles. Here are
instructions how:

How To View and Transfer FSMO Roles in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default...uct=winsvr2003

Using Ntdsutil.exe to seize or transfer FSMO roles to a domain controller
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504
Few other things to do:
* make sure your new DC is also a global catalog (GC)
* make sure you setup DNS and replicated it to your new DC (my advice is to
use Active Directory Integrated DNS)
* make sure that all your clients point to your new server's IP for
preferred DNS (configured under TCP/IP properties)
* move any other service that you might have on your old DC (e.g. DHCP)

After you do all this, run

dcpromo

on your computer. This will remove Active Directory service from the server
(don't just turn off the old server).

I hope this helps,

Mike
