AD integrated DNS

We have two DC's, both with DNS, which is AD integrated. If I reboot DC01,
tehjn I'm not able to log in immediately and I receive an eror message
stating that there is no domain available(!). After about 10-15 seconds I'm
suddenly able to login. After doing a lot of research on the internet I
found out that if I enter the DNS server of DC02 as secondary DNS server on
DC01, I'm able to log in to DC01 immediately after a reboot without any
errors. DC02 doesn't have any problems. Suggestions anyone?

Hello Makosoft,

If server one is down and you didn't specify server two as Global catalog
server users are not able to logon. Also the clients must be configured to
use both DNS servers, either via DHCP or fixed ip configuration.

Check Global catalog:
Open Active directory site and services, go to Sites, default first site
name, servers, choose the server, right click NTDS settings, open properties
and checkmark Global catalog (check event viewer after it, in Directory service
you must find event id 1110 and 1119)

Here about DNS configuration:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825036

Meinolf,

Both DC's are already GC's... everything was working just fine, until we
discovered DC01 had gone down a couple days ago.

Regards,

Makosoft.

Hello Makosoft,

Your clients have no problems with login even when dc1 is down?

Not as far as I know. I've rebooted DC01 a couple of times the past days,
but I didn't get any complaints...

Sander.

This morning we discovered that DC01 had gone down again, so it looks like a
hardware error. I better look into this first...
