AD-HOC Network HELP

I have tried to setup a wireless network at home between my desktop and
laptop. File, printer and ICS do not work at all! I can't seem to figure out
what is wrong. They connect ok but do not pass any sort of traffic at all.
Has anyone had any success setting up one of these?
My equipment:
Desktop(configured as HOST) - Dell 4300 Running Windows XP Home SP2 with a
D-Link DWL-G520 Wireless PCI card installed. 56KB Dial up Internet.
Laptop(configured as DHCP Client) - Dell 6000 Running Windows XP Media
Edition SP2 with built-in Intell PRO/Wireless 2200
