That was how I ran my local network of 5 machines for about a year and
a half, so I reckon it can be done, and it isn't even that hard.
1. Set up one PC for dialup. Test it to make sure it works.
2. Install wireless adapter on dialup PC. Set up for 802.11 ad hoc
mode, set and record SSID.
3. Turn on ICS, be sure you tell it to use the dialup connection to
allow other computers to access the internet. (It's easy to misread
the instructions and set ICS for the wrong connection.)
4. Set up wireless adapters on other PCs, set up for 802.11 ad hoc,
set SSID.
DHCP should , by default, take care of your internet addressing, so
the wireless interface on your dialup PC will have an address of
192.168.0.1 and others will be assigned addresses in the range
192.168.0.2 to .254, and theri "Default Gateway will be 192.168.0.1
If this is not the case, come on back and ask, we can talk you through
it.

The question isn't "are there weapons of mass destruction?",
the question is "who has them now?"
