Hello,

I have a HP/Compaq NC4010 notebook with an internal WiFi adapter (W400,
Atheros chips). Suse 10.0 recognized the adapter and installed the driver
but unfortunately the WiFi antenna is disabled (no blue light). For
Windows, there exists a special driver to activate the WiFi-system with a
special button. How can I do it with Linux???
Any help would be great! ;-)

I got the internal 802.11 working on my HP zv6000 by following the
ndiswrapper instructions for the particular model at
http://www.linux-laptop.net/ . This was under FC4_64. Dunno if that'll
help you, but thought I'd point it out. Works great!

Good luck!

Harold

If SuSE recognized and installed the drivers, use Yast to finish the
setup (network devices).

I tried it, but found no option to activate the adapter...

This page says the wifi is supported by the madwifi project:

http://www.netsplit.com/text/nc4010.html
http://sourceforge.net/projects/madwifi/

This text is from the first link:
"The laptop has a WiFi button that seems to unplug the aerial unless
enabled, but once you've done this once it remembers your setting after a
reboot so you don't have to switch it on and off all the time. Unlike
bdale the blue light comes on for me."

I found the problem: I had the character "&" in my WPA passphrase... So the
the string was cut in two parts and the script couldn't load the driver
correctly... :-( Now it works, but witout the "blue light": that's no
problem! ;-)
